Key Insurance sees spike in motor insurance claims post hurricane

General Manager of Key Insurance Company, Tammara Glaves-Hucey, says there has been a 30-35% spike in motor insurance claims since the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

However, she pointed out that this is not surprising given the devastation caused by the hurricane.

She said, unlike many other Caribbean countries, Jamaica's motor vehicle insurance policies traditionally cover all forms of catastrophe losses and, as a result, all legitimate claims will be honoured after verification.

Mrs. Glaves-Hucey indicated that claims for glass damage dominated the claims made because of shattered wind screens and windows due to falling debris.

She also stressed that a number of claims were submitted for vehicles that were washed away or severely damaged because of flooding and landslides.
