NEPA sets up tower to monitor erosion at Hellshire beach

A monitoring tower has been installed at Hellshire beach in St. Catherine as part of efforts to address the erosion of the shoreline.

Chalene Roye-Myrie, Beaches Coordinator at the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), told JIS News that the tower will be equipped with a video monitoring system.

This will allow 24-hour monitoring of the beach.

NEPA will receive real-time data on beach ebbs and flows and sand movement.

Mrs. Roye-Myrie says NEPA is hoping that, from monitoring data, it will be able to garner funding to carry out restoration work at the island's beaches.
