NSWMA trying to control smoke from disposal site in Portland

By Halshane Burke

The National Solid Waste Management Authority says it is using cover material to control the smoke coming from the Doctor's Wood disposal site in Portland.

Fire broke out at a section of the facility on Sunday.

Executive Director of the NSWMA Audley Gordon says work continues at the facility to bring the smoke nuisance under control.

Mr. Gordon told Radio Jamaica News that the fire appears to have been started from waste brought to the facility.

He said the NSWMA is receiving support from the Jamaica Fire Brigade to eliminate the smoke nuisance.
