The National Works Agency (NWA) has begun work to clear the blockage of sand and debris at the Yallahs Pond in the eastern parish of St. Thomas.
Last week, the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) said the pond is the likely source of the foul odour that has been affecting sections of the Corporate Area and St Thomas.
The scope of the work being undertaken by the NWA includes breaching the natural barrier between the pond and the sea to allow sea currents to circulate and cause mixing of the pond water.
NEPA said it had turned its attention to the Yallahs Pond following a series of investigations carried out by a multi-agency team in several communities.
