One Don Gang trial: Witness claims alleged gang leader had 'close ties' to police officers

The prosecution's second witness in the One Don Gang trial on Thursday claimed that top tier members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force supplied information to alleged leader of the criminal network Andre "Blackman" Bryan.

The witness, who testified that he went to the police to give a statement, said he changed his mind out of fear because of Mr. Bryan's close ties with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

He disclosed that on one occasion when he went to a police station in St. Catherine to give a statement about the gang, he was advised by an officer to speak with the Police High Command.

The witness revealed that he finally gave a statement to the police on November 24, 2018, because he wanted to put an end to the gang and stop the killing and extortion.

Second in command

The witness said he had been forced by Andre Bryan to become the don for a community in St. Catherine.

He said he received a death threat from Mr. Bryan when he said he was not interested.

The witness, who claimed he was second in command of the One Don Gang, testified that he and other gang members would often spend late nights on the telephone talking about violence.

He said one of the defendants, Jason Brown, would often be involved in the conversations and always wanted to commit murder.

The witness, who described Mr. Brown as being "very evil", testified that he had never met him in person but they spoke frequently on the phone.

Outlining the role and rank of the lone female accused, Stephanie Christie, he said she was the liaison between the gang and the police.

The witness also told the court that she is the pastor of a church in St. Thomas.

He said Miss Christie invited him to the church and offered him a "guard ring".

The witness said he declined her invitation and the ring.

The trial continues on Friday.
