One killed in gun battle at La Roose

The operators of the La Roose night club in Portmore, St. Catherine could find themselves in trouble with the law following Sunday morning's shooting at the venue.
The incident at the popular dancehall party, British Link Up left one person dead and several patrons wounded.

Speaking with reporters on Sunday afternoon at the scene, Constabulary Communication Network Metro Officer, Sergeant Troy Anderson said the promoters were warned twice to close the event but ignored police orders.

The police seized four firearms believed to be linked to the shooting.

Investigators are also questioning the promoters of the event to ascertain what may have sparked the shooting.

Meanwhile, the St. Catherine South Police have placed a ban on all upcoming events scheduled for La Roose until further notice.

According to reports from alleged eyewitnesses, at about 8 o' clock on Sunday morning an argument developed between two firearm holders.

Guns were drawn and they reportedly opened fire at each other.

Other firearm holders fired shots as patrons scampered for cover.

When the shooting ended it was discovered that two persons were shot, one fatally.

Dead is 47-year-old Clifton Reid of Lincoln Road in Kingston.

Mr. Reid is a reputed member of the Black Roses Crew.

And People's National Party (PNP) councillor for the Edge Water Division, Alric Campbell, said there is need for pre-security arrangements at such events.

According to Mr. Campbell apart from enforcing the Noise Abatement Act, it should be mandatory that metal detectors be used as a security measure at events.

In the meantime, one promoter has postponed an event scheduled for Sunday night.

D and L Promotions said after word of Sunday morning's shooting at the British Link Up Party, organisers made the decision to postpone its WET WET soca affair.

The event was scheduled to take place at the fishing Pier on Port Royal Street, St. Catherine.
