Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy says the country needs to be updated on the tests for the new strain of COVID-19 on positive samples taken from recent UK arrivals to Jamaica.
The Ministry of Health said some of the samples were sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in Trinidad last Thursday.
"It is almost a week now and we would like to know whether the ministry has received the results yet and if we have received the results, what are they? And if we have not received the results, why have we not received the results?" he demanded.
Last week, Jamaica's borders were closed to flights from the UK where the new strain of COVID-19 has been detected.
Twenty of the 301 passengers who arrived on the last flight into the island from the UK last week tested positive for COVID-19.
The 20 positive samples were sent to CARPHA for genetic assessment to determine if they are of the variant strain of COVID-19 detected in the UK.
