PNP's Dayton Campbell rejects allegations by party member Karen Cross

Dr. Dayton Campbell

People's National Party (PNP) General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell has rejected allegations made against him by member of the party Karen Cross and other individuals.

In a statement on Wednesday, Dr. Campbell said, when allegations first surfaced online, the PNP referred the matter to the police.

The PNP General Secretary said he filed a lawsuit against Miss Cross and others for defamation, having publicly denied the allegations.

The statement said last month Miss Cross filed a set of documents in her defence. Included in those documents were three statements purportedly signed by a Justice of the Peace.

The PNP General Secretary said the Justice of the Peace, who allegedly witnessed the statements, would be obliged under the Child Care and Protection Act to bring these matters to the attention of the police.

According to Dr. Campbell, the police remain unaware of the statements.

Asked in an interview on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines late Wednesday afternoon whether the police should reopen their investigation into the matter, Dr. Campbell said: "I will subject myself to any form of investigation because I know that I am not guilty."

He said his accusers were "wicked beyond measure."

Some advocacy groups have called for Dr. Campbell to step aside while a probe is carried out.
