Deputy Superintendent of Police Ryan Gayle, head of operations for the St. Ann Police
The police have cleared a section of the St. Dacre to Brown's Town main road in St. Ann which was blocked earlier on Monday by residents protesting the fatal shooting of a resident.
Members of the community used boulders and debris, some of which were set on fire, to prevent vehicular access along the thoroughfare.
The community has been on edge since 43-year-old Glester Whyte was killed by a policeman following a dispute over water on Sunday.
Ryan Gayle, Deputy Superintendent in charge of operations for the St. Ann Police, said his team cleared the debris to prevent any further incidents resulting from the roadblock.
He said the police met with the St. Dacre residents on Monday and managed to bring about some level of calm, however, "much more work is needed to really say that this situation is properly addressed."
DSP Gayle noted that the police will maintain a presence in the area.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) said the policeman involved in Sunday's shooting will be interviewed on Tuesday.
In a news release Monday afternoon, INDECOM said the investigation is in its early stage.
