Police deployed island-wide for Hurricane Beryl related duties

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Warren Clarke

The Police High Command has deployed personnel islandwide to secure critical infrastructure and scheduled premises.

It says all its incident command centres have been activated across the island, beginning at 6 o'clock Wednesday morning.

The High Command says the police will be working with parish disaster preparedness committee command centres to ensure coordinated and efficient response at the local level.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of Strategic Operations, Warren Clarke disclosed that "the entire force" is available for deployment during the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

"Our highway patrols are monitoring main thoroughfares across the island, and Mobile Patrols are active in domestic and business districts," he detailed, adding that the Quick Response Unit "is also prepared for rapid deployment."

He said the police were giving priority to the protection of "key institutions," including the state-run oil refinery, Petrojam, the airports, business districts, hospitals, major road networks, the courts, prisons, and scheduled premises.
