Police Federation Chairman urges members to respect civilians' rights

Sergeant Arleen McBean, Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation

Rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force are being urged not to be abusive towards civilians when carrying out their duties.

This appeal has come from  Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, Sergeant Arleen McBean.

Sergeant McBean, speaking last week at a St. Elizabeth Police Conference in Black River, said the organization will not be tolerant of members who abuse their authority.

She said, despite the country being burdened with crime and violence, the rights of citizens must be upheld.

But she also insisted that the police must not be hindered in their mandate to serve and protect.
