Tax Administration Jamaica will begin issuing electronic motor vehicle registration certificates exclusively starting Monday, July 21, 2025.
The new system replaces the traditional physical registration certificates, decals, and stickers.
Motorists will now receive digital certificates by email, accessible through TAJ's online Certificate Generation and Delivery Service.
To complete any new or renewed registration—whether online or in person—a valid email address will be required.
In preparation for the rollout, online services will be suspended at 5 p.m., Thursday, July 17, and all tax offices will be closed on Saturday, July 19 to allow for system updates.
The electronic certificates will also offer more flexible validity periods, now including two-year options, along with the existing six-month and one-year terms.
While private vehicle owners may continue to renew online, commercial, diplomatic, and public passenger vehicle owners must still visit a tax office.
The authorities say the new system will also enable instant verification by police, insurers, and financial institutions—boosting both security and efficiency.
