Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says the High Command is worried about a growing trend in which domestic disputes are ending in deadly violence.
According to Commissioner Anderson, 20 per cent of the more than 400 murders recorded in Jamaica since January are linked to domestic disputes and conflicts involving family members.
"This is a shift, as we see a reduction in the gang related murders and an increase in the interpersonal. The JCF continues to work with communities, partners and through our domestic violence centres to impact interpersonal conflicts that can give rise to serious violent crimes," he said.
General Anderson, who was speaking at a Jamaica Constabulary Force press conference on Tuesday, added that in some cases, friends and associates of feuding individuals have become targets of violent attacks.
"One of the young children who was killed, was actually killed in a conflict between cousins. This is the sort of thing. It is not just the conflict between the actual persons involved in the conflict; this creates spillover to families and associates and friends."
At the same time, General Anderson said an increasing number of men are filing reports at domestic violence centres.
