Private firm to audit accounts of the Integrity Commission - Finance Minister

MP Everald Warmington and Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke, speaking at Tuesday's meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament

Member of Parliament for St Catherine Southwestern, Everald Warmington has taken issue with an increase in the budget for the Integrity Commission prior to an audit being done on the anti-corruption body.

The Integrity Commission is receiving more than $195 million in the First Supplementary Estimates.

This is in addition to the $1.85 billion allocated in the budget for the Commission in March.

It brings the total for the fiscal year to more than $2 billion.

Mr Warmington, speaking at Tuesday's meeting of the Standing Finance Committee, examining the Supplementary Estimates, strongly expressed his concern about the continued allocation of budgetary funds to the Commission without it being audited like other public bodies.

In response, Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke said a private and independent auditor will audit the Integrity Commission.
