Public urged to be wary of strangers requesting phone calls

By Halshane Burke

Members of the public are being urged to be wary of strangers approaching them and asking to use their phones.

Senior Superintendent of Police Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Constabulary Communications Network, says the police have information about a scam involving unscrupulous people requesting a phone call from strangers.

SSP Lindsay says the criminals then make off with the device.

She is advising people who are inclined to assist to dial the number and place the phone on speaker or offer to make the call themselves, rather than handing over their device.

SSP Lindsay further advises that if at any point people feel unsafe in these situations, it is best to create a scene to get the attention of others, who can call the police.
