Trinidad & Tobago's Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, has announced that he will be resigning from that office before the next parliamenary election, and that he will be quitting representational politics after 45 years.
The electorate in the twin-island republic are due to go to the polls before the end of the year.
Parliament is due to be dissolved by the end of August, with elections due within 90 days thereafter.
Prime Minister Rowley, speaking at a press conference on Friday, thanked his supporters for sticking by him over the years.
Dr Rowley has served as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms, starting in 2015.
