Pump attendant was victim of contract killing, police say

Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, head of the St. Catherine South Police

Investigators have determined that the female pump attendant who was shot at the Petcom gas station on Passagefort Drive in Portmore, St. Catherine on Tuesday was targeted by contract killers.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, head of the St. Catherine South Police, told Radio Jamaica News on Wednesday night that a special team has been assembled to investigate the case.

Chevelle Lewis, a 31-year-old mother of two who resided in Windsor Heights in Central Village, St. Catherine, was serving petrol to a customer when she was pounced on by two men travelling on a motorcycle.

One of the men opened gunfire, hitting Miss Lewis in the upper body.

The men escaped.

SSP Phillips said while he will not reveal the activities around the investigation, "the support is coming in" and detectives are "making fine progress".

On Wednesday, Radio Jamaica News reported that investigators are trying to determine whether the killing of Miss Lewis is linked to a relative who is said to be a gangster from Windsor Heights.
