Saharan dust to begin affecting Jamaica today

By Kimone Witter

A wave of the Saharan dust layer currently across the central Caribbean is expected to affect Jamaica today (Wednesday).

The very thin layer of dust drifted from the eastern Caribbean into the central Caribbean today, and is now moving into the western Caribbean.

The Meteorological Service says the hazy conditions will be short lived, with the greatest concentrations just south of the island.

The dust mass is expected to remain across the island until midday Thursday, when a Tropical Wave is likely to move into the vicinity of the island.

Persons who are asthmatic or have allergies and other respiratory illnesses should adopt precautionary measures.
