Six defeated candidates in Monday's general election in Trinidad and Tobago have filed requests for a recount of ballots further delaying the official announcement of results by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC).
EBC Communications Manager, Bobbi Rogers, confirmed that the main opposition United National Congress (UNC) had requested general recounts.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley on Monday night said his People's National Movement had been returned to office, winning 22 of the 41 seats in Parliament.
UNC Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar has refused to concede defeat.
The recount could take a few days to be completed.
