A statue is to be commissioned by next year to complete the Workers' Monument located in the vicinity of the Kingston Craft Market on Ocean Boulevard in downtown Kingston.
Culture Minister, Olivia Grange, gave the commitment at a Rededication and Remembrance ceremony on Monday at the site of the monument.
It was dedicated to Jamaican workers who participated in the 1938 Labour Riots at the Kingston Wharves.
Full restoration of the monument will coincide with the 80th anniversary of the event.
Miss Grange has instructed the Jamaica National Heritage Trust to commission a statue to complete the structure.
The minister said she will be seeking the assistance of the Ministry’s partners, as well as the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) to fund the venture.
The Jamaica 55 legacy project secretariat will also have a role in its restoration.
