Suspect shot dead by police in St. Thomas

A man who was wanted by the St Thomas Police for various crimes, including murder, was fatally shot on Monday evening, reportedly during a  confrontation with the police.

He was identified Duane Logan - otherwise called Loutie - of a Seaforth address in the parish.

According to police reports, about 7:00 p.m., Logan engaged the police in a shootout near the Morant Bay round-about when he was shot.

The police reported retrieving a Glock pistol which he was carrying.

Logan was implicated in the January 17 killing of Dean Griffiths, a manager on the Serge Island Farm.

Radio Jamaica News understands that the pistol recovered is that of the farm manager.

Logan was also a person of interest in the fatal shooting of District Constable Mark Anthony Forsythe, among others.

Deputy Superintendent Oniel Thompson, who is in charge of  operations for the St. Thomas Police Division, told Radio Jamaica News that the police have stepped up activities in Seaforth, which led to persons of interest leaving the community.
