Commuters are being warned to brace for a fourth day of disruption in the transportation sector as some taxi operators have decided to continue their protest.
President of the Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO), Louis Barton, is insisting that the protest will not stop until there is a resolution to their grouse.
The operators took to the streets on Monday in protest against proposed fines for certain traffic breaches.
While they have conceded there is misinformation about the reported $75,000 fine for missing badges, they have other issues.
Speaking with RJR News last night, Barton explained that the protest will be followed by other actions .
“We’re not going back to work until something is finalised. We are going to meet with opposition senators to tell them our position on the whole thing and see what they are recommending. On Friday, we want to deliver a letter to the President of the Senate to advise him of what we are asking for……”
He also highlighted another aspect of the Bill which is generating worry among the members of his association.
“For example with the parking situation, there is no parking facility in Kingston for taxi operators. So when an operator stops at a place to pick up a passenger, they are charged or given summones for obstructing traffic or parking at a no stopping sign or a no standing sign. All of those need to be addressed,”Barton said.
