The Bahamas: Firearms NGO lobbying for change to firearm laws

The local firearms association in the Bahamas is lobbying with its 2,000 members for the country's 'antiquated' laws regarding the use of guns to be changed.

After having conducted a regional study, Bahamas National Firearms Association (NFA) President Melvin Gordon underscored the need for the government to revisit several of the current laws and policies related to gun ownership.

He said he believes the Bahamas is still the only country that uses the amount of paper the Bahamas uses when it comes to firearm licensing.

The NFA president also stated that they have lobbied the government on the "Castle Doctrine," which speaks to an individual's ability to use guns to defend themselves on the perimeter of their home lot; something he claims the current law does not account for.
