The Bahamas: Pastor urges calm amid upsurge of violence

Anglican Bishop Laish Boyd, while expressing concern about the "staggering" number of murders recorded in The Bahamas as well as the Turks & Caicos Islands, is warning residents not to panic.

Bishop Boyd highlighted his concern about the recent increase in crime, murder in particular, in both The Turks and Caicos Islands and The Bahamas, during the 119th Synod on Wednesday.

He noted that The TCI Turks had recorded 27 murders to date, compared to 14 last year.

He pointed to the Bahamas situation which he described as a staggering number of 108 murders to date, with brazen gang-related assaults and killings in homes, schools, businesses, and on public jitneys.

According to Bishop Boyd, this is very distressing and frightening for citizens.

Nevertheless, he urged the Bahamian people not to panic but be vigilant, more cautious, and stay away from hot-button areas and from bad company.

In that regard, he cautioned them not to move around as they please; stressing that they have to be more careful.
