Three Hondurans plead guilty to entering Jamaica illegally

By Kimone Witter

Three Honduran nationals who entered Jamaica illegally after their boat was damaged during inclement weather, on Wednesday pleaded guilty before the St. Elizabeth Parish Court.

The men were each fined $5,000 or 20 days imprisonment on the charge of illegal entry.

The fines were paid, but the Hondurans will remain in custody until a deportation order is issued.

They were arrested at a house at Lititz on October 15, during a targeted operation in the community.

The court was informed that the men were taken to the house after being rescued.

The men said, at the time of their arrest, they were awaiting information on when repairs to their boat would be completed for them to depart the island.
