TT: PM supports US Surgeon General's call to address gun violence crisis

Trinidad's Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, has welcomed a move by the United States Surgeon General, Dr Vivek Murthy, to declare gun violence a public health crisis driven by the fast-growing number of injuries and deaths involving firearms in the North American country.

The advisory issued by Dr Murthy came as the United States grappled with another weekend marked by mass shootings that left dozens of people dead or wounded.

Dr Rowley, in a statement, said US authorities agree and join Trinidad & Tobago and CARICOM in declaring gun violence a public health crisis.

Trinidad & Tobago hosted a two-day regional symposium addressing crime and violence as a public health issue in April last year.
