Two charged in relation to ammunition bust in St. Catherine, offered bail

The two persons charged last week in connection with the seizure of a large quantity of ammunition were offered bail when they appeared before the St. Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.

Their case was transferred to the Supreme Court for hearing on November 26.

Horace Petinaude, 33, a salesman of Zadie Avenue, St. Andrew and Carlson Crescent in Cumberland, Portmore was offered bail in the sum of $500,000 following an application by his attorney Christopher Townsend.

His co-accused, 62-year-old Shirley Laing, a supervisor employed to the Portmore Municipal Council, was offered bail in the sum of $150,000.

The police reported that they conducted an operation in Tawes Meadows two weeks ago and arrested Mr. Petinaude after allegedly seizing almost 50 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

They conducted a follow-up raid at his house in Cumberland and seized an additional 100 rounds.

Ms. Laing, who rented a section of the house to Mr. Petinaude was taken into custody and later charged.

Her attorney argued that she should not have been charged as Mr. Petinaude was her tenant.

Last week, Deputy Superintendent Linroy Edwards, head of operations for the St. Catherine North Police, told Radio Jamaica News that an investigation has been launched to determine whether Mr. Petinaude has been selling ammunition to members of the criminal underworld.
