Two constables die in Sunday evening crash

Two members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force died on Sunday evening and three others have been hospitalised following a crash along the York Town main road in Clarendon.

The deceased have been identified as Jessica West and Shawn Atkins, both constables.

It's reported that, about 6:40 p.m., the constables were part of a team responding to a report that three suspects were spotted on a motorcycle along the York Town main road.

Upon reaching a section of the road, the service vehicle skidded and the driver reportedly lost control of the unit.

The vehicle reportedly overturned into a ditch.

The injured police officers were taken to hospital where constables West and Atkins were pronounced dead.

The deaths of the constables bring to 265 the number of fatalities on the road so far this year.

There have been 18 such deaths this month.
