Superintendent Victor Hamilton, head of the Kingston East Police, has revealed that most of the suspects behind last weekend's violence in McKintyre Villa, more popularly known as Dunkirk, have left the community.
The police conducted special operations in the area on Monday.
Two people were killed and three others injured during the flare up.
Superintendent Hamilton told RJR News that he and other senior officers toured the community for three hours seeking to assure the residents that the police are determined to restore calm.
The police were called to Dunkirk on Saturday when rival gunmen carrying high powered weapons traded bullets for several hours.
The violence was reportedly triggered by the fatal shooting of a man on Bray Street.
The killing sparked reprisal attacks.
