The Jamaica Defence Force in a review of its operations last year says it has recovered 38 weapons, one thousand 166 rounds of ammunition and 36 magazines.
The JDF which works in tandem with the Jamaica Constabulary Force conducting over Five thousand and 53 joint patrols, 135 snap raids and 35 curfews.
These are part of the JDF's ongoing effort to remove illegal guns, ammunition and narcotics from the streets and to restrict the activities of criminal gangs.
The JDF says the efforts also resulted in the capture and detention of a number of Jamaica’s most dangerous and most influential criminals.
Some of those criminals are being held at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre, where the JDF assists the Department of Correctional Services with security duties.
The JDF noted that it also had a number of successes last year in the ongoing fight against trafficking in illegal drugs.
Working alongside the JCF, the JDF destroyed approximately 272 hectares of growing ganja and over 11, 288 kilograms of cured ganja with a combined street value of approximately 420 billion dollars.
The JDF Coast Guard alone conducted over 400 narcotics interdictions and 187 anti-narcotics dives, and recovered over 3655 pounds of ganja from vessels at sea.
In a major operation last December , the Coast Guard assisted in the detection and capture of over 230 pounds of cocaine that was being shipped through Jamaican waters.
The JDF Coast Guard, whose primary role is maritime security and surveillance, also carried out a number of maritime law-enforcement operations.
The Unit closed out 2011 with 1221 maritime law-enforcement operations and boarded 274 vessels that were suspected of being involved in fisheries violations.
The Coast Guard also seized four illegal fishing vessels, four go-fast boats and approximately 2700 pounds of illegally fished lobster and over 200 pounds of conch last year.
