A member of parliament in the Bahamas was on Thursday acquitted of raping, assaulting, and threatening to kill his former girlfriend after a trial before Justice Renae McKay.
North Abaco Member of Parliament Kirk Cornish appeared calm as the jury forewoman pronounced him not guilty of all five counts. He faced two counts of rape, two counts of assault, and one count of threats of death.
The jury of eight women and one man delivered their decision in the high-profile case after almost two hours of deliberations.
