Health officials in Trinidad & Tobago are sounding the alarm over the rate of diabetes in children.
The increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes, traditionally found in adults, is said to be of grave concern.
The Diabetes Association of Trinidad & Tobago says type 2 diabetes is appearing in children due to rising rates of obesity, low activity levels and poor eating habits.
The Association says addressing the problem is high on its priority list because overweight children often grow into overweight adults, leading to earlier diabetes diagnoses and complications.
