OAS to investigate rift between Belize and Guatemala

The Organization of American States (OAS) says it will conduct an independent investigation of the April 20 incident that led to the death of the Guatemalan minor Julio René Alvarado Ruano and the wounding of his father and brother.

The investigation was requested by the governments of Belize and Guatemala. 

  

OAS secretary general Luis Almagro, told the authorities that he will proceed immediately with the identification and deploy the appropriate experts to carry out the investigation as soon as possible. He also reiterated the call for both sides to prevent future confrontations or situations that could derail the peace and stability between the two countries.
