Health issue leaves Scorpions squad short

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Jerome Foster

The matter of underlying health issues of athletes has again been brought to the fore, even as a late medical result has caused the Jamaica Scorpions to be down to 12 players for their opening round clash against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes.

It comes after Cricket West Indies (CWI) made a recommendation to withdraw Alwyn Williams from the clash on medical grounds. Williams completed five overs in the game before he was replaced by leg spinner Abhijai Mansingh.

CWI Chief Medical Officer Dr Bennett added that the move was unprecedented but the panel had to act based on their principles.

Williams is expected back on the island shortly and will be replaced in the squad by Jamaica Defence Force opener Tevin Gilzene.
