JAAA sets revised dates for qualification meets pending approval

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), has announced qualification meets for Tuesday, April 20 and Friday April 23 across several venues. However, the local governing body says this is pending approvals from the relevant government bodies.

Jamaica's senior athletes are fine-tuning preparations for next month's World Relays as well as the olympic games in the summer while the juniors are shaping up should Boys and Girls Champs be approved as well as the Carifta Championships in Bermuda in July and World Under-20 Championships in Kenya in August.

The meets have been moved to mid-week following the extended weekend curfews announced by prime minister Andrew Holness on Tuesday.

The JAAA says going forward it will seek permission to have some meets on Saturday mornings ahead of the 4:00 pm curfew.

Registration for the events opened on Thursday and close at 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 17 with athletes required to sign a Covid-19 waiver to complete their registration.

The JAAA notes that no spectators will be admitted and a maximum of 16 athletes per team will be allowed in each venue. Teams are also mandated to have a Covid-19 marshal.
