Jamaica ends Pan Am Games campaign with 19 medals

Jamaica rounded out the track and field portion of the 18th Pan American Games in Lima, Peru by adding one more medal, a bronze in the women's mile relay on Saturday. The team of Stephenie McPherson, Tiffany James, Natoya Goule and Ronneisha McGreggor clocked a season's best 3 minutes 27.61 seconds behind winners USA who posted 3 minutes 26.46 seconds and silver medallists Canada who crossed the line in 3 minutes, 27.01.

However, the Jamaican males had to settle for 6th as the team of Terry Thomas, Rusheen McDonald, Romel Lewis and Javon Francis clocked 3 minutes, 06.83. Colombia took gold with USA settling for silver and Trinidad and Tobago the bronze.

Clive Pullen and Jordan Scott were 5th and 9th respectively in the men's triple jump final. Pullen had a best effort of 16.35 metres while Scott's best jump was 16.13.

In wrestling another Jamaican, Angus Arthur lost out, in the quarter-finals, 14-4 to James Downy of the USA in the 86 kilogram freestyle category.

In swimming, Micheal Gunning qualified for the 'B' final of the men's 200 metres individual medley after finishing 5th in his heat earlier on Saturday in 2 minutes, 08.52 seconds.

Overall, Jamaica ended the Games with 19 medals, 6 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze with 17 of the medals coming in track and field where Jamaica finished third in the medal table behind the United States and Brazil.
