Former Alpha Academy standout Kiara Grant is now the new holder of the national junior women's 100 metres record. Grant who is now a sophomore at Norfolk State University in Virginia, sped to 11.11 seconds to take the runner-up spot in Saturday's final at the Mid East Athletics Conference Outdoor Championship in North Carolina.
Her time eclipses the previous national junior record of 11.12 seconds set by Veronica-Campbell-Brown in the year 2000. Saturday's final which was run in a tail-wind of 1.5 metres per second, was won by Kayla Whyte of North Carolina A&T in a new MEAC record of 10.96 seconds.
