Ten thousand additional seats along with a state of the art anti-doping facility and  semi-covered bleachers have been included in the package for the development, expansion and upgrading of the National Stadium. The work will be done in phases and is expected to take approximately three years. A contract valued at $30 million has been signed with Apec Consultants who will present the business plan and architectural design for both the National Stadium and the Trelawny Stadium in September.

The announcement was made by Sports Minister Olivia "Babsy" Grange who gave the main address at Thursday's launch of the Racers Adidas Grand Prix at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

“One of the most urgent aspects of its development is additional seats because for example Boys and Girls Champs we don’t usually have enough seats and based on our marketing plans, we’ll be able to bring large crowds,” said Minister Grange.
