The island's top rated horse Toona Ciliata benefitted tremendously from the 9 pound claim of apprentice Romario Spencer to land Saturday's feature Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy over 6 and a half furlongs at Caymanas Park.
The 5-2 shot was saddled to victory in the $1.7 million Graded Stakes and Open Allowance contest by champion trainer Anthony "Baba" Nunes. The 5 year old chestnut gelding came home in 1:19.3 to win by three-quarters of a length.
Javaniel Patterson landed a double among the jockeys, while no trainer had more than one win on the 10 race card. Racing continues in four days' time with the Ash Wednesday programme.
