Williams wins Diamond Trophy and wild card ticket to World Champs

2015 world champion Danielle Williams became the second Jamaican to win a Diamond League Trophy this season after she captured the women's sprint hurdles in Brussels on Friday. Williams also sealed a wildcard entry to the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar later this month.

Williams entered the race as the favourite following her stellar performances this season and she did not disappoint. She dismantled the field, winning in 12.46 seconds ahead of the American pair of world record holder Kendra Harrison 12.73 and Nia Ali 12.74.

However, two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Farser-Pryce had no such fortune as she was beaten into second place by Great Britian's Dina Asher-Smith in the women's 100 metres. Asher-Smith clocked a season's best 10.88 seconds while Fraser-Pryce was second in 10.95 and Marie Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast third in 11.09.

The second place finishes continued for Jamaica when Ronald Levy crossed the line behind Spain's Orlando Ortega in the men's 110 metre hurdles. Ortega registered 13.22 seconds for the win while Levy was runner-up in 13.31 and Sergey Shubenkov third in 13.33.

In the men's 400 metres Akeem Bloomfield was third in 44.67 seconds behind Americans Michael Norman 44.26 and Fred Kerley 44.46. Nathon Allen ended down the track in 8th place in 46.17. Fedrick Dacres failed to retain his Diamond Trophy as he ended third in the 65.27 metres in the men's discus throw.
