Windies lose opening game at ICC U19 World Cup

The West Indies made a losing start to their campaign in the ICC Under-19 World Cup after going down to Australia by six wickets in Guyana on Friday.

Batting first, the home side were bowled out for 169 inside 41 overs. Skipper Akeem Aguste top scored with 57, while Rivaldo Clarke made 37. McKenny Clarke also chipped in with 29.

Cooper Connolly, Tom Whitney and Nivethan Radhakrishnan took three wickets each for the young Australians.

Australia got to their target with 31 balls to spare, reaching 170-4, thanks to Teague Wyllie who top scored with 86.

Matthew Nandu, Onaje Amory, Shiva Sankar and Johann Layne all took a wicket each for the Caribbean side. The young West Indies will next be in action against Scotland on Monday in St Kitts.
