Jazmine Sullivan took album of the year for Heaux Tales, Lil Baby was awarded best male hip hop artist and Chris Brown took best male R&B/pop artist.

Giveon was named best new artist, Kirk Franklin won the best gospel/inspirational award and Nigerian singer Burna Boy took best international act for the third year in a row.

Rapper and Actress Queen Latifah was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Swizz Beatz, Busta Rhymes and Method Man led the posthumous tribute to rapper DMX.

Cardi B was the number one trending hot topic at Sunday night's live staging of the 2021 BET Awards, as she debuted her baby bump while performing alongside rap group Migos.
