Bank of Jamaica Governor Dr. Brian Langrin says addressing food supply shocks and higher food prices are important to price stability and the containment of inflation.
Inflation was running at 8.6 per cent in September, way outside the central bank's target range of four to six per cent.
Speaking at a recent Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Conference, Dr. Langrin made it clear that this would have to be done in conjunction with monetary policies.
He also indicated that there is room to investigate whether there are tools apart from interest rates that can be used to stabilise food prices which contribute to 35 per cent of the inflation rate.
