Cargo Handlers records lower Q1 earnings due to hurricane impact

Cargo Handlers is reporting lower first-quarter earnings, with the company citing the ongoing impact of Hurricane Melissa on operations at the Port of Montego Bay.

For the three months ending March 31, net profit stood at $47.62 million, down 45 per cent from the same quarter in 2025.

Cargo Handlers recorded total revenue of $103.17 million.

That represents a 19 per cent decline compared with the corresponding period last year.

The company says the performance was affected by reduced warehousing capacity following damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.

This led to smaller cement shipments arriving through the Port of Montego Bay, negatively affecting cargo volumes.

Cargo Handlers also reported an 8 per cent decline in cruise revenue compared with last year, although the company noted that Montego Bay was able to preserve its cruise homeporting season despite the severe weather event.

Looking ahead, the company says it expects conditions to improve over the next two quarters as restoration work continues at the port.
