Export earnings for hotels and restaurants industry increased in Q1

There was an estimated 6.3 per cent increase in export earnings for the hotels and restaurants industry in the first quarter ended March 2024.
 
James Stewart, Senior Director in charge of Economic Planning and Research at the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), said the industry continues to benefit from increased travel due to growth recorded in the main source markets and effective marketing strategies. 
 
"Preliminary data for the quarter reveal that total stopover arrivals increased by 7.4 per cent to 788,246 visitors. Cruise passenger arrivals increased by 18.1 per cent to 563,828 visitors and total visitor expenditure increased by 9.3 per cent to US$1.28 billion," he reported.
