Express Catering Limited (ECL) has reported a strong start to its 2026 financial year with first quarter net profit rising by 50% to US$1.5 million, up from US$1 million in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
The company, which operates food and beverage outlets in the departure lounge of Sangster International Airport, benefitted from a 5.5% increase in passenger traffic, moving from 667,705 to 704,567 travellers during the quarter.
Revenue grew by 4.8% to US$6.8 million compared to US$6.5 million in the prior year.
Despite a slight dip in the average passenger spend rate from US$9.70 to $9.64, a key driver of the profit surge was improved cost efficiency.
The company credited this improvement to medium-term fixed price contracts for ingredients and stricter monitoring of inventory and food standards.
Looking ahead, ECL says it expects the remainder of fiscal 2026 to outperform the previous year, buoyed by Jamaica's growing tourism sector.
The company cited the recent removal of a negative travel advisory, the addition of over 1,000 new hotel rooms and ongoing private accommodation development as positive indicators for sustained passenger growth.
