Jamaica spent US$162.6 million to import Consumer Goods in the month of January.
The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) says this represents a 0.8 per cent increase, versus the US$161.4 million spent in January 2023.
Imports in the sub-group Non-Durable Goods totalled US$32.5 million.
That was 6.4 per cent more than the US$30.5 million spent in January 2023.
The country spent US$17 million to bring in Durable Goods, reflecting a 14.1 per cent increase.
STATIN says this was mainly due to increased imports of furniture and parts thereof, along with electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances.
There was a 10.2 per cent rise in the value of imports in the Semi-Durable Goods category.
This was valued at US$15.7 million.
STATIN says this was linked to the higher value of imported clothes and accessories, as well as miscellaneous manufactured articles.
