Mining producer prices fall 2% in July but manufacturing costs rise

Producer prices in Jamaica's mining and quarrying industry fell by two per cent in July, while prices in the manufacturing industry increased by 0.7 per cent.

The latest figures from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) show that the decline in mining and quarrying was largely influenced by a 2.2 per cent fall in the Bauxite Mining and Alumina Processing index.

STATIN says the decline was linked to lower alumina prices on the international market.

Meanwhile, the increase in manufacturing prices was driven by higher prices in several major groups.

The Food, Beverages and Tobacco index rose by 0.9 per cent, refined petroleum products increased by 0.6 per cent, while chemicals and chemical products rose by one per cent.

Over the 12 months to July 2026, producer prices in the mining and quarrying industry declined by eight per cent.

However, the manufacturing industry recorded a 9.9 per cent increase over the same period.
