The Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) says there are plans to further develop the Reynolds Shipping Pier in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
President and CEO of the PAJ Professor Gordon Shirley confirmed earlier this week that work is in the early stages.
"We are thinking about an expansion which would involve a finger pier, which could have two terminals, two berths on it. That work has just begun. The work on that, the engineering for that is under way, but that's still relatively new. The first order of business is to get the berth back up and in service, and we'll do that within a year," he said.
Mr. Shirley was speaking with Radio Jamaica News at the PAJ's Media Open day this week.
The Reynolds Pier has been used to accommodate cruise vessels, since the Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal was damaged by a ship during very windy conditions in February.
The PAJ says repairs to that facility should be done by June 2025, to the tune of J$20 million.
