SLB funding not cut, says Finance Ministry

The Ministry of Finance says funding to the Students’ Loan Bureau (SLB) for the 2017/18 Financial Year has not been cut.

In a statement on Tuesday, it said based on Budget allocation, the SLB is projected to receive $2.827 billion from the Special Education Tax (SET) for the 2017/18 fiscal year.

For the 2016/17 fiscal year, a similar amount is projected to be received.

The Finance Ministry says as a result there is no reduction in funding from the SET.

It says an additional $100 million in grant funds was pledged by the HEART Trust/NTA for the 2016/17 academic year which will not be repeated in 2017/18.
